Welcome
to the website of Flat Out Off Road Racing Team. This year our
competition vehicle is a Toyota LandCruiser 80 Series. We will be competing
in the extreme 4WD class, the newly named class eight.
In 2004
Flat Out Off Road Racing Team competed in the Gascoyne Dash in a Toyota
Landcruiser 73 series in the social class for non CAMS cars. It was this
event that led to the move to class 8 with the 73 series. After one year in
class 8 achieving second place in the state championship, the team decided
to move to class seven with a Toyota Landcruiser 80 Series.
After
our first year running the 80 Series in Class 7, the Flat Out Off Road
Racing Team has finished the season with a first in class 7 for the Western
Australian Series and a second in class 7 for the Australian Off Road Racing
Championship. Also a few top ten outright results and class wins at
Yealering and Mogumber.
After a
good season 2006 the change to the extreme 4WD class in 2007 allows more
modifications with a lot planned, including twin RAW Nitro Max big bore
shocks all round, new motor, an alloy 6.0 litre LS2 with suitable driveline
upgrades to handle the power increase, reduction of weight and an overall
strip and rebuild of the whole Landcruiser.
At the end of 2008 the
team expanded to run 2 cars, keeping the Extreme 4wd 80 Series and building
a Production 4wd GQ Nissan Patrol (affectionately known as the Pootrol) The
team has also run the 73 Series as it was originally built in Winch
competitions such as the West Oz Challenge.
2009 saw the Production
4wd take 1st in class in the WAORC and the Extreme 4wd 80 series finish
strongly with wins at Mogumber, Yealering and second place in class at the
Gascoyne Dash. In 2010 the 80 Series is undergoing a revamp but will make it
out on track at some stage during the year and the Pootrol will be out to
defend the Production 4WD WAORC title.
The number one driver for Flat Out Off Road Racing Team is Frank Galea
(Extreme 4wd) with the normal navigator being Justine
Galea with Jason Galea running in the Pootrol
With the new King triple bypass shocks installed,
the first brief test proved their worth. Although the car still
requires a fair bit of work before the next race, being the Mogumber
240, the temptation to go out for a quick spin was too great.
While the RAW shocks are a great off the shelf product which never let
us down, I can say we are now at the next level. Not only do the
King shocks smooth out anything that we aim at, the additional control
is what really surprised us. The ability to throw the car into a
sandy rutted corner, on full noise, with confidence that you will
maintain control has turned a heavy race car into a nimble fun machine.
A big thanks to Sonny from Downsouth Motorsport for his wealth of
knowledge and always great pricing.
The Flatout Off Road Race Team will focus on racing
just one vehicle, being the Landcruiser 80 Series as we have sold the
ever reliable Pootrol and hope to see it out racing soon. The
build of the second race car has commenced, keeping our team in the
Toyota family. The plan is to have the 2 car race team ready for
the 2011 season, while utilizing the remaining 2010 season to fine tune
the vehicles.
A big thankyou to our sponsors and
supporters during the season and hopefully we will have a full action packed
season in 2011.
